Growing up along the Gulf Coast, there were a ton of side-of-the-road, greasy spoon seafood restaurants, and they always had some sort of cheesy souvenir t-shirts of the "I got Crabs at Barnacle Bill's" variety. I thought it would be fun to take that sort of aesthetic and mix it up with a bunch of my favorite aquatically-based characters from a wide selection of modern culture - everyone from Ackbar to Zoidberg.
